Arctic browning workshop: further information

Registration:

The workshop is free to register (see link to registration form on main workshop page). Food and refreshments provided, including a workshop dinner on the Thursday evening.

Travel:

  • Sheffield University is well connected to Manchester Airport. Manchester Airport is served by many domestic and international carriers and has a regular, direct rail link to Sheffield.

  • Manchester, Leeds/Bradford and East Midlands airports are all about an hour's travel time from Sheffield.

  • Sheffield-Robin Hood Airport near Doncaster is around 30 minutes away by car.

  • Both London Heathrow and Gatwick airports are reasonably accessible by rail with one or two changes of train. We recommend you to allow at least four hours travel time between either of these airports and Sheffield.

  • If coming from a UK location, we recommend travelling by train. Car parking is very limited around the university. Check with your hotel if they are able to provide parking.

The University of Sheffield's travel advice pages can be found at this link.

Accommodation and workshop dinner:

Sheffield has a large number of hotels to suit any budget.

City centre hotels (click for examples) are either 15 to 30 minutes walk, or 10 minutes on the tram, to the university. The tram runs about every 5 minutes during core working hours. Sheffield train station is also close to the city centre.

If you want to book accommodation at or near the location of the workshop dinner, this will be at the Yard Restaurant, in the Mercure Sheffield St Paul's Hotel, city centre. The Mecure offers a special rate of £120 per night if you quote 'University of Sheffield' when booking.

The Venue

The workshop will be held at Inox which is located in the middle of the university campus (level 5, Students’ Union Building). Head for the main entrance in the north side of building 120 on the campus map (in square E3/4 on the map). The nearby tram stop for the University of Sheffield can be seen in square E4 on that map.

A larger map including the university and city centre can be found here.
